A Horse Called Freedom – finding the warrior within
Modern life has its own challenges.
“We are all warriors of a kind and have our own battles to face” says folk rocker Cheynne Murphy “Everyone is juggling work, passion, finance, lifestyle, family, technology – modern day life demands warrior-like qualities. I believe we are ultimately on a quest for freedom and a more peaceful, fulfilled way of being” says Cheynne, who is gearing up for the launch of his debut album “A Horse Called Freedom”
Cheynne is an independent singer songwriter from Byron Bay who made his debut at Bluesfest 2009, and has gone on to support the likes of Pete Murray, Tex Perkins, The Church, Richard Clapton, Choir Boys and Christine Anu.
He recently joined forces with engineer and producer Paul Pilsneniks (Pete Murray, Angus Stone, Powderfinger, Jeff Martin) to recorded a rich, emotive folk rock album with hints of alt-country. Cheynne doesn’t place himself as a country artist but is inspired by the spirit of country. The end recording is warm and emotive, with layered harmonies, framed by the resonant chime of Cheynne’s acoustic guitar and driven by a classic 4-piece band featuring the electric guitar work of Toby Andrews.
“I draw on nature, rustic imagery and also a deep connection with the earth and ocean”.A Horse Called Freedom forms the Volume 3 in Cheynne’s ‘Firesongs For the Soul’ series, which focuses on the fire as a source of healing, community gathering as well as a musical sharing. The indigenous imagery and symbolism present in Cheynne’s music integrates with the modern warrior and the emotional endurance required to balance life and loss, and the rapidity of change - the mythical ‘horse called freedom’ represents an elevated perspective on how to best face the ordeals of life.
The Cheynne Murphy band is touring A Horse Called Freedom across the Northern Rivers region of NSW with the big launch at the Mullumbimby Courthouse, Saturday August 30.
